A Smart Weekend
And the weekend goes On & On...It is not often that you get to visit with people from your own home city. But when you do, you can be assured that you will be having a good time. There is something to be said about the good folks from Dallas TX. And I am excited to have several of them coming in town this weekend. The first of which is Ms. Erykah Badu. If you will be at the Heiniken show tonight, then I will definitely see you there. It will be live, as always. Though it would be even better if they let her bring her own band. There is something about playing with your own people.
My boy Nehemiah & Mike will also be making an appearance this weekend from the Big "D' as well.
Here are the options for the weekend:

Saturday
Live music seems to be calling us again...
Let's have a random night at Nick's Beer Garden
1516 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago (Wicker Park)
Katherine Davis (who?) will be performing live @ 10pm
Though I have not heard of her. Anyone that looks like this when they are singing has got to be good!
But honestly, I am tired of going to these live music joints where OUR people are performing and there aren't any of us to come and support. So let's check it out! it's free. Check out her website so you can see the tremendous background that she has.http://www.katherinedavis.com/bio.html
We can hop around Wicker Park for a bit, but the ultimate plan is to hit up Betty's Blue Star Lounge. (1600 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60622) It's open until 5am and I have NEVER had a bad time. The drinks are cheap and the cover is nominal. Thanks Terry Buffington for introducing us to this laid back spot!
Sunday
"Boy, if you dont get up and go to church! " - I can still hear my mom telling me this though she is miles away. After church I am game for anything, brunch, a park (weather permitting) or just chilling out! But let's remember, Sunday is a day of rest. So that will be the key! REST! After all, Monday will be hours away!
Any other suggestions on the weekend, just post it or let me know!
The Social Cause:
- Happy Birthday Jeff Beckham, Darren Armstrong & Lance Williams!
- Congrats on the new job Jeff B!
- Welcome back to Chicago Nehemiah Thompson!
- Welcome to Chicago Mike Walker!
- And lastly of yeah, because we're Flyyyy!
Peace - L. Christopher Steffens!

I'm the Don Dadda
Okay, so we went a little hard this past weekend. I know I am broke as hell. But a baller on a budget is always resilient. Nothing too much going on this weekend except for the Caribbean Festival in Union Park. (Details below) We will likely hit that up Saturday evening. The Chicago Classic is also happening so beware of those crazy Louisiana folk coming thru representing Southern University. If the weather holds we will tailgate after the game then head to the Caribbean Festival. So as always: text: "Im Down" to 9728979985, if you are!
Cheers!

Introducing The Smart Set
The "smart set" is a newly formed, yet unofficial organization of socialites in the Chicago Urbane Social seen that have one main goal: Working Hard and Playing Hard! We seek a healthy balance of social culture, professionalism and of course style. The term smart set was "borrowed" from the literary magazine published in 1900 by William d'Alton Mann (Source: Wikipedia) and the 1930's social club, originally founded for African American women.
While our social club is meant to be organized in jest, we do intend on involving the following in our "social duties"
- Social Calendering
- Social Commentary (including reviews of events, restaurants, and fashion)
- Social Mobilization & Activation
Please be on the lookout for more, from your fellow socialites @ THE SMART SET!
